Saturday Night, The Texas Rangers and New York Mets’ game went under a rain delay but that didn’t stop 6 players from the Rangers. Ian Kinsler came up with the idea of sliding on the tarp and Milton Bradley seconded it. Then Ian Kinsler, Milton Bradley, Josh Rupe, Josh Hamilton, Gerald Laird, and Michael Young came out of the dugout in the pouring rain and started sliding head-first down the tarp on the infield. The six were out there for only a few minutes, but long enough to get the Mets crowd cheering for them as they waited for the rain to stop. “Let’s go Rangers!”

Sunday, there was a scary moment in the 9th inning of the series finale for the St. Louis Cardinals who were playing against the Philadelphia Phillies, when Eric Bruntlett collided at home plate with Yadier Molina. With runner’s at 3rd and 1st base, Phillies’ SS Jimmy Rollins hit a chopper to the 1st baseman Chris Duncan who quickly threw it to Yadier Molina at home who tagged out Eric Bruntlett trying to go from 3rd to home. Bruntlett, however, appeared to hit Molina in the head with his elbow and after this Molina fell to the dirt face-first. He lied motionless for several minutes and had to be carted off the field on a stretcher. Yadier Molina remained conscious and was taken to a local hospital to evaluate back and neck problems. He was a potential All-Star for them this season. He was later diagnosed with a mild concussion.

MLB Aims To Use Replay In 2008 Season Saturday , June 14, 2008

Friday, the MLB is looking into implementing instant replay by August 1st. Last November, baseball’s general managers voted 25-5 during their annual meeting to explore the possibility of using the video technology to help decide disputed home run calls: Fair or foul, in or out of the ballpark. With a number of disputed home run calls already this season, some GMs are eager to have it implemented in some shape or form. MLB would not likely implement a system in which delays will be considerable or disruptive to the pace. To the contrary, one stated goal in the contemplation of replay would be to reduce confusion and eliminate extended arguments over the issue in question.
